AfroIntroductions is a niche dating website owned by Cupid Media, which was established in 2000. The company has 35 niche sites and services 2.5 million members all across the world and the numbers keep increasing.
AfroIntroductions itself boasts 350,000 members (45% female, 55% male) from the USA with 2,000 daily logins, which is promising because when theirs an active member base, it’s safe to assume that people are enjoying the site, the features, and the experiences as a whole. It claims to be the “largest African dating site,” and it appears to be true with those stats.
If you’re interested in joining the site, the registration process is fairly simple. The site asks you to fill in:
Name
Gender
Age
Email address
Password
However, if you want an easier way to sign up, you can choose to sign up with your Facebook account. You will have to confirm that you allow AfroIntroductions to receive your personal details such as name, profile photos, location and the like. If you choose this method as we attempted to do, you won’t have to worry about the site posting anything to your Facebook feed.
We say attempted because when we clicked on the “Join with Facebook” button, we received a message telling us to enter our AfroIntroductions password to connect with your Facebook. This was confusing because this was the first time trying the site, therefore our accounts shouldn’t be linked.
Instead of continuing with the Facebook login route, we completed the manual registration process. Whew!
Like any other dating website, you will want to take your time to fill out your dating profile where you’ll be asked to fill in the typical profile questions and upload a photo. You might find this part of the process is a little tedious because you’ll be answering questions that are a little personal for a dating site. These include:
Dating preference
Religion
Education level
Hobbies
Living arrangement
...and more.
Keep in mind that this site doesn’t badger you to complete your profile, but it will suspend your account if you haven’t done so. You will also want to actually interact with other members or your profile will be removed. This is a decent policy because it ensures members are active, engaged, and are real people.
We want to note that all photos will be reviewed by a member of the Cupid Media team. This includes all public photos as well as private ones. Your private photos can be shared with pick and choose who is able to access them (other than the admin).
By taking the time to complete your dating profile as completely as possible, you’re increasing the likelihood that you’ll appear on more search results and get more messages.
Like all dating sites, AfroIntroductions is free to join. A basic plan allows you to use simple features such as:
Basic searches and filters
Send interest
Message paying members
Add Cupid tags
Basic matching
These sound fine and well, but what if you wanted to improve your success on the site? You could choose to upgrade your membership to one of two membership plans:
Platinum Membership
12 months is $12.50 per month (totaling $149.99)
3 months is $23.33 per month (totaling $68.98)
1 month is $34.99 per month (totaling $34.99)
Gold Membership
12 months is $10 per month (totaling $119.98)
3 months is $20 per month (totaling $59.99)
1 month is $29.98 (totaling $29.98)
So what would make someone want to upgrade their accounts to a premium plan? Well, in our opinion, not very much. With a paid membership, you’ll be able to:
Communicate with all members on the site
Use the instant messenger for live chat
Browse profiles anonymously
Rank higher than non-paying members in search results
Highlighted as a VIP profile
Should you choose to go with a paid membership, keep in mind that your plan will auto-renew at the end of the designated time frame and if you don’t want that to happen, you can opt out at any time. It’s recommended that you change your auto-renew settings at least 48 hours before your premium plan is to be renewed.
There are a few different ways you can search profiles on AfroIntroductions. You can look through profiles based on photos alone, photos with some profile information or a complete profile. If you want to narrow down your search, you can use advanced search features and find singles based on a variety of things such as:
Age
Location
Marital status
Lifestyle
Physical traits
..etc.
In addition to these, if you have a platinum plan, you can use the “auto match” feature to find your ideal catch.
When you receive your matches, you will see five icons under the profiles. These icons will allow you to:
Read the profile
Send them a message
Like the photo/profile
Add profile to your favorites
Know if someone is currently online
Should you decide that you don’t want to continue paying for a premium membership, you can opt-out of the auto-renewal by going to your settings and choose “Billing.” From there, you will want to click “No” where it asks if you’d like to renew your membership. The site will ask you to confirm this by clicking “Switch off auto rebilling.”
If you’d like to remove your profile completely from the site, you can do that by going to your account settings and choose “Switch Off” your profile. You’ll be asked to explain why you’re leaving the website or you could leave a testimonial if you found the site helpful.
In today’s age, dating sites are a dime a dozen. Each site boasts to be the best, have the most active members, advanced search algorithms, and whatever else they think will draw people in. While most sites make these claims without having anything to back them up, AfroIntroductions actually has the numbers to back it up.
We like that the registration process is simple and that you have the option of using your Facebook to join if you prefer that method. We also like that there is a mobile app you can use to flirt and chat with people even when you’re away from your computer.
For all the positive things this site has going for itself, there are a few concerns that we want to mention. One of the biggest concerns being the cost, especially if you only want to try it out for one month just to see if you like the service and you’re able to find potential matches. We recommend the one or 3-month platinum membership because you’ll be able to access all of the features and test it out before committing to an annual membership.
With that said, we feel that AfroIntroductions is a dating site that’s worth looking into. Whether you’re looking for love, a quick fling, or anything in between, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
