As I have already expressed the registration/signup process is the most aggravating part of the site. Aforementioned earlier in this review, the initial signup process on the site is a dud and doesn’t actually lead to anything and you have to scroll right down to the bottom of the page. To explain this further, when you get to the bottom of the website, you will need to click on an option that says “How it Works” and then from there you can finally sign up. Although, you will need to jump through a few hoops to get your confirmation email.
To the sites benefit, they also have an app for their dating service that you can get on both iOS and Android. Without a doubt, the app is far more superior to the website you would use on your laptop or computer. I believe that this is because the app will be a more popular version compared to a website – due to the convenience of it and the influence of mobile phones in this modern age. Logging into the app as an existing member was incredibly easy so I could not comment on the registering process on this format, but I imagine that it would have been easier than the website.
Once you have registered on the site, creating your profile is incredibly easy. It is simply a matter of adding a photo and a biographical line if you wish, which adds a personal touch to your profile. And there you have it you now have a dating profile! Along with this you also have a string of queries under your name and picture of common questions such as eye color, religion, occupation etc. As well as this, other users can even request answers to these details if you are yet to answer them.
So here is where the biggest issue lies, and not in the registering mishap or the outdated appearances but in the pricing plans. So let’s begin with what you can get for just the basic plan (FREE) account on their site:
Creation of profile
Upload of photos
Ability to like and skip profiles
However, I found that I was also able to message people, send gifts and view who I had matched with and who had liked my profile. Although that may have been a taster of what I could do and they were trying to encourage me to pay for those perks full-time. Now if you do want to pay for more perks then you become a “star member” and this entails:
Unlimited messages
See who has viewed your profile
See who voted like on your profile
Get more views as you will be suggested more on the site
Be shown on their star members section hall of fame that everyone seems to be able to view
I definitely would not recommend this; however, the payment plans come in three options:
1.Pay 0.33 pence (GBP) every day for six months, which they claim to be the best price. This means that after six months you would have payed around £59!
2.Pay 0.45 pence (GBP) every day for three months, which works out at about £40.
3.Pay 0.99 pence (GBP) every day for a month, which works out at about £30.
Now obviously, they advertised the most expensive as the most worthwhile one but I believe that the price they are asking for is simply a scam shrouded in a tiny daily instalment. If you really want to try the added benefits of a premium plan then I would recommend going for the month’s payment plan as you will lose the least amount of money this way.
Now the search options were a little less explicit, however, they are definitely there! So if you are wondering how to search on DoULike.com it may be because you missed it. Under the meet people tab, there is an option to refine the profiles shown to you through the specification of gender, age and ZIP code/city. This filtering can also be used on a mobile search through the app. However, this search by the city doesn’t seem to narrow it down at all as I was still being shown singles from other countries. You also cannot search profiles or search by username.
Messaging is another aspect of DoULlke.com that adds to its good features. There isn’t much to say about it that isn’t much different from other messaging services. You can see timestamps of the messages, you can see all of the messages you have received and sent, and you can also see when the person was last active. So how to message someone on DoULike.com is pretty self-explanatory as you are given the option to message someone when you are shown their profile, and it is easy to respond to messages sent to you. I do not have any issues or outstanding remarks on this aspect of the website.
Finally, here is how to cancel your DoULike.com account from the website (as cancelling a subscription from the mobile app doesn’t seem to be possible). Simply go into settings and select “account cancellation” and from there you will be required to choose the reason as to why you want to cancel your DoULike.com subscription. If you choose something that requires a further explanation there is a box located just underneath for your comments. And then you click “cancel account”. Immediately your profile will be removed from public and your details will be kept on their database for a month just in case you wish to reinstate your account. All-in-all this was a simple process and done very quickly!
In conclusion, DoULike.com is not a website I would recommend as I feel that you could find better service from a far more popular site/app and also be shown a wider range of singles. It does have good features such as the popularity score, how easy it was to navigate and the features you can use without having to pay for the premium package. However, the outdated website, the slow and unreactive links and the unnecessarily coy pricing plans leave a foul taste in the mouth. Approach with caution but it’s not one you have to avoid completely, but it is definitely worth researching different types of dating sites before you decide on one to use and conquer.
