The registration process can take up to 30 mins. To log in to Match.com you can either use the traditional way of entering your email and password, or log in using your Facebook account. Click on the “log in using Facebook” button; you will be redirected to Facebook where you can log in using your account. Once the procedure is complete it returns you back to Match.com logged in.
When you first click onto the site, a popup asks you to select your gender, what gender you are looking to meet, their age range and your ZIP/postal code. This takes you to a next screen where you are guided to create a free account. You only need an email address, password and date of birth for this. Finally, before moving on to the questionnaire and creating a profile, you are asked your name and how you close you would like to meet people, based on ZIP/postal code or region.
This process is the same regardless of what device you use. To download the app, simply visit the application store for your operating system, type in “match.com” in the search bar and download the first suggestion.
Once you have completed the registration, either via email or Facebook, it comes the time to create a profile. You are taken through five screens where you can input the information you want to find on your matches’ profiles. Screen one focuses on what they should look like, with questions such as hair and eye color, height, etc. Next you select their background, such as education, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and language. Throughout the process you can select options to be deal-breakers. Finally, the finer details about matches that matter to you, such as relationship status, if they have kids or not, if they want kids, drinking habits, if they smoke, etc.
The second part is essentially so you can tell people about yourself. It goes through eight screens. You are asked to describe yourself (hair & eye color, height, etc.) and some optional questions, such as more detailed religious beliefs with an open-ended answer box. Tick sports you enjoy off a check-list, and say where you grew up. There are extra questions you can answer to give members a better understanding of who you are, such as favorite hobbies and movies. The last thing is a Match.com true and tried profile questions which has been on the site for years. You can write a short bio and explain what you’re looking for at the end. You are then asked to tick a box if you with your information to be shared. And the last thing is to include photos, either uploaded or imported from Facebook.
After you have completed this process, your profile (both photos and content) will need to be approved. This is to ensure clean and real profiles. Once approved, you will be shown your first set of matches. While it is possible for you to search for matches before being approved, other members can’t see your full profile.
Currently, as of January 2019 the prices are these:
3 Months - $19.99/month
6 Months - $16.00/month
12 Months - $15.99/month
These prices are standard, but you can frequently find coupons and deals, especially for first time users. There are extras such as letting free members contact you, but in our opinion, they are not worth it.
A free account lets you view profiles, get matches, appear in searches and send winks however you cannot send messages or reply to anyone who has contacted you.
Match.com has a wide-ranging Search section, with various filter options, ways of searching and organizing your search results. Organize your search results by newest, activity date (last visited), age, distance, photo count, and username or by Match Picks, which are the profiles the site thinks you will match the best. You can save any search you run for later use also.
Start with the Basic search, which can be found in the Discover menu under the Go Search tab. Here you can filter searches using fields such as appearance, interests, background, lifestyle, etc. or less detailed ones such as gender, location and age range. From the Go Search tab you can improve your results and do an Advanced search by clicking on the filter icon. This shows the drop-down list of categories mentioned above, each with a checkbox for you to select. Press the bookmark icon to save your settings.
Also, under the Discover menu you can find the Mutual Match tab, the Reverse Match Tab and a Username tab. Mutual Match finds members based on what you say you are looking for on your profile, while Reverse Match filters matches based on what you have said about yourself in your profile, essentially finding the people who are searching for you. Username allows you to search for matches based on their username.
There are different ways to communicate with users once you have found them. You can save their profile to send a message later, send a wink and show interest, favorite them, or like a photo. With a paid membership, there is the option to message, or chat with them if they are online. You can talk and text with the matchPhone, which keeps your number private. You can also forward profiles to a friend, bring up similar profiles, or choosing Match Me. This last option allows you to be listed as a daily match.
The Messages page is where your conversations are stored, either as conversations or filtered messages. Head to the Connections section to see your matches, past and present. You can keep track of who you have interacted with here.
First thing you need to do, and you should do this immediately after subscribing, is turning off auto-renew. This can be done in the Cancel/Change Membership section of your Account Settings (the gear icon). Once there, follow the on-screen instruction.
Once that is done you can cancel your membership in the same section. It will immediately hide your profile from others. If you want to rejoin, simply sign in and reactivate the account.
If you are seriously looking to find a relationship, then without a doubt Match.com is the best site for you. Whilst the prices are expensive, if you go for a 3 or 6 month plan you have high chances of meeting someone special, and that makes it worth the price you pay.
