TheAffairSite.com was created in 2009 by a guy who was cheated on by his ex-wife. He revealed that he created the site to help “people to find the excitement that their current relationship lacks.” He goes on to say that by having an affair, users may be able to see that the relationship has run its course or it could be the saving grace that makes the relationship stronger.
We won’t weigh in on that particular sentiment because the topic of having an affair is a polarizing subject.
One of the good things about this website is how easy it is to register for an account. You only have to answer six basic questions*:
What you are looking for (man seeking woman or woman seeking man)
Birth date
Desired username
Your email
ZIP/postal code
It can’t get much easier than that. Once you’ve finished the registration process, you will be able to access the site and its features. However, you will notice that under the menu bar at the top of the page, you will see a large banner urging you to “Upgrade Your Membership Now!” and to complete your profile to get “5x more messages.”
*Please note that our test account is set up for USA users and the questions may be different depending on where you’re located.
Creating your dating profile is pretty easy, too. You will be asked to fill in information about yourself such as:
Your gender (man, woman or couple)
What gender you are interested in (man, woman or couple)
A headline
City
What language(s) you speak
Birthdate
How you’d describe yourself
After you finish the main portion of your dating profile, you have six other pages of profile questions to fill out. These questions are grouped together in several categories:
Appearance & Situation (relationship status basically)
Status (education, employment, income, living arrangement, if you smoke and/or drink)
Personality
Views on Life
Taste (favorite television shows, music genre, reading preferences, etc.)
What You’re Looking For
While we can appreciate the thoroughness of the questionnaire, we can’t help but wonder if all of that matters if you’re just looking for a brief affair. Why does it matter what someone is looking for in a soul mate?
Unlike other dating sites, TheAffairSite.com only offers a basic plan and a premium plan. If you choose to stick with the basic plan, you’re going to be limited by what you can do. The free features offered with the basic plan allow you to:
Create a profile
Upload photos
Search for people in your area
Receive IMs (cannot respond to IMs)
The premium membership grants you access to:
Unlimited emails and flirts
Instant messaging
Audio/Video chat rooms
Member forums
Invisible Mode
Access to all Member Photos
Is There a Mobile App?
At the time of this review, there isn’t a mobile app that you can download. You can, however, access the site and its features through the mobile version of the site.
You have several options when it comes to finding matches. First of all, since you provided your ZIP/postal code, you will see people in and around your area. The furthest search result from our ZIP/postal code was more than 120 miles (193.12 km) away!
The site allows you to browse through photos of people on the site. Yes, just photos.
You can click on the photo to see the user’s profile. From here, you can send them a “quick message” from this page, you can “flirt” or you can “ask if [he] [she] is interested.”
If you press the “Flirt” button, you will get to choose a variety of pickup lines, or icebreakers. Some of these are pretty cheesy but there are a few lines that are less cringe-worthy. Do note that if you do not upgrade your membership to premium, you will only be able to send 30 free flirts. Upgrading means you can send unlimited flirts.
If you click on the “ask if is interested” button, the user will receive a message asking if they’re interested in getting to know you.
The site does have chat rooms you can use to meet people, but you will have to upgrade your membership in order to do so.
There is also a feature called “Rapid Match” which works a lot like Tinder. You will be presented with a picture and a few stats about the person. You can either pass or like the person by clicking on the appropriate button on either side of said photo.
Unfortunately, unless you upgrade your membership, you’ll only be able to do a quick search. An upgraded membership offers 31 additional search options.
Navigating TheAffairSite.com Website
The design of this site is pretty dated and it doesn’t look like it has been updated since its creation in 2009. With that said, it doesn’t mean the site is unusable. At the top, you will find the menu bar to which you can see who’s online, look through photos, work on your profile, check your mailbox, manage settings and (of course) upgrade your membership.
On the left-hand side, you see your profile photo, which you don’t want to forget to upload. Under that, you’ll see a small summary that includes:
Number of messages that are in your mailbox
Free conversations (if you upload a photo, you get 40 times more messages and unlimited communications)
Number of favorites
How many times you’ve been favorited
How many people you’ve blocked
How many people have viewed your profile
Number of users online
Membership status
At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a Facebook-esque instant messenger system. This system is only available for premium memberships.
Cancelling your subscription is fairly easy. Simply go to the “Settings” menu and click on it. There you will be able to deactivate your account. It can’t get much easier than that.
The internet is an amazing tool for connecting people with others all over the globe. It doesn’t matter what kind of connection you’re hoping to make, you can bet there’s a dating website that will help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
In our opinion, TheAffairSite.com is a decent online dating service for those interested in an extramarital affair. It may not be the absolute best site out there, but it certainly isn’t the worst.
If you’re set on having an affair, you’ll have no problems finding someone who’d make your secret affair worth the risk when you sign up to become a member of this service.
