The registration process is like many other dating sites and is over before you know it. They ask for the usual details of name, email and gender and then all you need to do is create your profile. It is definitely very easy and you’ll forget you’ve done it after 5 minutes. Once you have registered you will receive an email verification and then you need to complete your member login. This is super easy and is also smooth and simple on the mobile login too.
The creation of your profile is pretty basic although it is something you will have to do once you have signed up and logged in. The profile asks for the usual things such as eye colour, height etc. It is also this section where they ask you for your HIV status so make sure you don’t miss it and that you remember to fill it out! You can also upload a photo and extra details (aside from the profile questions). And that’s it! You’ve got your dating profile and you’re ready to get flirting and dating.
The website doesn’t seem to make the free features of the basic plan very explicit so it is hard to tell what you are getting for free. However, the premium plan (known as VIP on the site) includes many benefits such as:
See who has viewed your profile
Get advanced search features
Upload unlimited photos
No more ads
See who has favourited you
Go into incognito mode
Have unlimited search results
See message read receipts
The pricing for these features are strangely reasonable and are a little lower than some of the other dating sites available today.
1.12 months = £3.58 per month (billed in one instalment of £42.99)
2.3 months = £5.33 per month (billed in one instalment of £15.99)
3.1 month = £6.99
4.1 week = £2.99
It is rare for a dating site to offer a weekly payment, so that is pretty impressive. Sometimes you don’t want to commit to a whole month of a site you have never used before so being able to pay for a week and see how you feel is a well thought of opportunity.
The search options will change depending on what device you are visiting the site from. If you are visiting through the desktop then, unfortunately, you cannot search further then your own profile and the details you have on there. However, if you are using the app on your phone then you can search profiles, search by city and search by username. There seems to be a major inconsistency here but of searching is a key part for your search for love then go for simply using the app as opposed to the desktop site.
Messaging on Gaydar desktop doesn’t seem to be much different from other chat room designs. You can add emojis which is a nice touch and you can also see your chat history under one tab on the site. So it is well organised and won’t leave you feeling confused. Also, if you want to message someone on the site then all you need to do it click on their profile and then click the message icon located in the top right-hand corner.
If you are wondering how to cancel your Gaydar account then luckily it’s pretty simple. All you need to do is click on your profile icon in the top right-hand corner of the page, then click on my settings. From there you need to click on the option that says ‘permanently delete profile’, then all you need to do is enter your password and your profile will be deleted. There is no way of undoing this so make sure you definitely want it deleted before doing it. However, if you have paid for a subscription and you need to know how to cancel your Gaydar subscription then I’m afraid you have an extra process to go through! Follow the steps above and then log on to your iTunes account and delete the subscription from there. If you don’t do this then you might get a surprise bill when it rolls around again.
Gaydar is probably one of the best sites around at the moment for men looking for men. The design on both the desktop app and the mobile app are well designed and pretty fluid in their performance and design so you won’t be disappointed when it comes to that. The creators of the site obviously understand the community and have added those extra little details mentioned in the Pros section to show their care in what they are doing. There were a couple of red flags when it came to the ‘travel’ section but as long as you avoid putting information on there then you should be okay. Overall, if you are looking for a decent dating site to find love and you do not want to pay an arm and a leg for the subscription, then I truly think that Gaydar should be a strong contender.
