The registration process is easy, but a little lengthier than some others. True to their word, however, CatholicSingles.com focuses on lifestyle and personality-based questions. They want to know how often you attend church, what your family background is, if you smoke or drink, and whether you class yourself as introverted or extroverted. They also let you set your hair color, eye-color, body-type, and state whether you think of yourself as attractive, average, or “beautiful inside and out”. The idea here is to, yes, find someone you like to look at, but to ensure that they also nourish you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (and, of course, that you can do the same for them!).
Once you have taken the time to register and you have answered the basic profile questions you can start to search profiles, send EOIs, and take questionnaires designed to connect you with members that are similar to you. You can also search manually and filter by an astounding number of factors from age and looks to politics and distance, but the clean, modern layout of the site makes it easy to use. With the statement and mission of CatholicSingles.com, however, and the type of people that they attract, it really is better to take the time to fill out your “About Me” sections and maybe even a few of the miniature “essay” sections that they offer (yes, you are encouraged to write a short essay or two).
Like many dating sites these days they offer a free, limited, membership option, but require you to pay a fee in order to access the full features of the site. You can pay quarterly, bi-annually, or monthly at a rate of $17, $12, and $25 per month respectively. So, it’s not the most expensive site out there, but the need for financial commitment does weed out most of the jokers.
Canceling your CatholicSingles.com account is, in theory, very easy but I did have to run around the site for 5 – 10 minutes looking for the appropriate section and buttons. Once I found what I was looking for, however, it was as simple as clicking “cancel immediately”. What was really nice, however, was that they offer a hiatus option so if you meet someone that you think might have potential you can suspend your account to give them your full attention and cancel it later if you want. And, of course, if it doesn’t work out you can unsuspend your account and forego repeating the registration process.
It probably won’t shock you that I conclude this review by saying that the people who can really benefit from CatholicSingles.com are… well, Catholics singles. All in all, however, it’s a stylish, accessible, and welcoming site that gives every indication of genuinely believing its own mission statement. The people, by and large, are friendly, Christian people who want a real relationship and are willing to work for it. Which, let’s be honest, in today’s world of “fast-food” dating and meetups, is quite refreshing.
