MetroDate requires a length registration process, beginning with the usual username, password, email and location to create your member login. After you register, you’ll be instantly sent to fill out your profile. If you’re the type of person that has trouble coming up with a username, the website is helpful in that it automatically suggests a randomly generated username. The downside to this is the loss of creative usernames that might show a spark of personality before you even get to their profiles, and by extension, a lot of the users feel like they could potentially be bots or cat fishers with the generic usernames and strings of numbers at the ends of them.
Because there is no app, there is no need for a unique mobile login system. In fact, you may want to stick to using your desktop for this site.
To register your member login, you’ll enter your gender, sexual orientation, birthdate, education, height, smoking status, child status, race, religion, body type, relationship status, hair color, eye color and occupation. And that’s only the first page for your dating profile.
The next one, the one it sends you to when it says you’re going to “Home” is actually another form to fill out. Not that being required to fill out your profile right off the bat is a bad thing for a dating website to ask of you, but the second page’s “continue” doesn’t take you to the next step of filling out the profile, it just refreshes the page. The “go to home” link is small and would be easily mistaken by anyone as an optional link.
This third page of your dating profile asks for your preferences of a partner, including but not limited to details like: Age range, Education, Height range, Smoking status, Child status, Races you’d like to date, Religions you’d like to date, Body types you’d like to date.
While there must have been a demand for these options, height ranges sound rather shallow and by including them in your search criteria, not including the information looks suspect.
The next page of setting up your profile are these optional (and hidden) text boxes that starts with an “about me” section. The links below aren’t actually links but hide more text boxes for their respective questions and extra details, but not knowing this, they can be easily confused as suggested topics to talk about in the aforementioned text box. This seems to serve as a hidden profile question system.
Finally, you’re given the option to upload or email a photo. Emailing your photos seems like a unique though odd feature considering if you’re able to upload a photo to your email, it follows you should be able to upload your photo directly to the website.
There is no basic plan or premium plan service so all users are able to enjoy the same free features as equals. There’s mention of the fact your account is free on some pages, which might otherwise indicate that there is at least some kind of basic plan, but no such option to pay for a premium service could be found. All the free account features you see are the ones you get.
When searching for a potential match, you’ll head over to the “People” link in the menu. There, you’ll select from a few options to search profiles:
Quick Search Results
Advanced Search Results
Member Lookup
Who’s Online Now?
My Favorites
People I’m Flirting With
People Flirting With Me
You can learn how to use MetroDate’s search by using advanced option as it and functions similar, if not the same, to your preferences for your potential match. Their description of this service includes the phrasing “refine your search or try different options” so it’s safe to assume that “advanced” actually just means having a little more control over your preferences in real time rather than having to go back and edit your profile if you aren’t getting any matches based off your preferences.
If you’re looking a “search by city” option, you’re not really going to find one considering that the entire dating site is based around one city.
One option in meeting online is to “flirt” with them. This is a feature that allows you to “express interest in a member but aren’t ready to contact them.” Choosing this option will add them to a list for you to find again later.
Additionally, you can search by username by clicking on “People” in the menu and scrolling to the bottom for the “Member Lookup” option which is not available in the “People” dropdown menu.
To message someone, you’ll just click on the “message” button on their profile and start messaging. An alternative on how to message someone on MetroDate can be to take part in the online chats rooms.
If needed, how to cancel your MetroDate subscription? To delete your MetroDate account, hover over the “Home” link in the main menu and select “Account Info.” From there, you’ll scroll to the bottom and find “Click to cancel your free account” in the “Other Account Preferences” section. It will ask you why you wanted to cancel your account, and choosing one of the options of why you’re leaving is required.
Clicking one of these options may prompt the website to convince you to stay, such as choosing the “no one has contacted me” which will give you tips on how to be more approachable or to tell you to be a bit more forward.
If you aren’t convinced or don’t want to be convinced, simply go down and click the button “cancel account.”
For people in the Portland, Oregon, metro area, this may be a possible alternative to using other dating websites and apps like OKCupid or Tinder, the latter of which having more of a hookup culture to it. This is also a good website to start with if you’re new to the city and new to online dating as it helps you navigate the city and offers plenty of advice, safety tips and tricks, and articles on finding a partner online.
